My love affair with Spain

It first started on a weekend break to Barcelona. I have travelled extensively with many years working within a well known travel giant  and Spain as a holiday didn’t really appeal to me during that time.

This one weekend in Barcelona was a crazy mix of shopping, eating, drinking and laying in the sun. The heady mix of city and beach really floated my boat so you could combine a glitzy city bar with boho day on the beach.

Perfect for a girl that likes to change her mind a lot. Visiting the Barcelona sights was great with Sagrada Familia not disappointing. We took a city hop on hop off bus tour that suited both of us well. Even fitted in a trip to Camp Nou – a little dull for a non footie female but an epic few hours for a footie mad fella.

We ate paella in a beach side restaurant, drank cocktails in in several city centre bars and did La Rambla one morning which is an experience in itself and perfect for people watching.

Barcelona is an atmospheric city that is ideal for a romantic break or even a girly weekend. Take a romantic walk around Gaudi’s Parc Guell or stroll hand in hand on the beach.

We took the tram up to Tibidabo for panoramic city views and found great spots to picnic. Barcelona is a city of beautiful people so take your place in a pavement café and enjoy watching the world go by.

At night Barcelona comes alive and you’ll find any number of intimate bars and restaurants to enjoy from rustic tapas joints and classy bars with the best plan being to make no plan at all and go with the flow. You never know, your evening out could have you enjoying the sunrise on the beach. In Barcelona these things happen!
