8 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

You may already be using coconut oil in your kitchen for its amazing health benefits, but this versatile oil can be used in many ways in your beauty regime too.

  1. Hair Mask

If your hair is dry and lacklustre a dash of natural oil will help it regain softness and smoothness. At room temperature coconut oil is solid so either let the jar run under the shower or pop it into the sink in warm water. After you have washed your hair apply the melted coconut oil and let it sit for five minutes before rinsing. For an extra boost of moisture leave the oil on for a few hours as you go about your chores. It’s then best to shampoo off and be left with gleaming locks.

  1. Body moisturiser

The creamy texture of solid coconut oil makes it the perfect light moisturiser to slather all over. Apply a 50 pence piece sized amount right after you get out of the shower so it can sink into your warm skin. A delicious tropical scent lingers after it’s applied and you could add in a few drops of peppermint or lavender oil for a massage mix

  1. Lip balm

Chapped and dry lips can be uncomfortable so using ultra-hydrating coconut oil on them throughout the day and before bed will make those lips luscious.

  1. Body scrub

Mix melted coconut oil with either a half cup of sea salt or sugar and then use your hands to rub it over any rough patches of skin. This homemade scrub moisturises while removing dead skin cells resulting in skin that’s baby soft. You also add a drop of your favourite essential oil to create a personal spa experience.

  1. Cuticle softener

There is no need for expensive cuticle oils when you have coconut oil to hand. If you are a regular gel polish or nail polish wearer keeping the cuticles soft and moisturised is important. Coconut oil will nourish the nail, cuticles and hands.

  1. Taming the frizz

If you have coarse or frizzy hair then many of you will spend a fortune on products that will tame that frizz. Try rubbing a pea size amount of coconut oil between your fingers to warm it up, and then apply it to the bottom couple inches of your hair for all day frizz protection. If you have thicker, coarser hair, apply the coconut oil from mid-shaft to ends for added frizz control.

  1. Make up remover

Just a little coconut oil can take off a day’s worth of makeup with ease. Massage a dollop of warmed, liquified coconut oil straight onto skin and watch as makeup melts away, then rinse with warm water. This will moisturise your skin too.

  1. Shaving cream

Warm the jar under the water and smooth onto legs before shaving. Your razor will glide smoothly, allowing for a super-close shave, and your legs will be moisturised from the oil in the process though it is best to shave outside the shower as coconut oil can be slippery.
